How to find that Special Gift for the Holidays
Oh, the holidays, time with family, delicious food, bowl games.... and yes, holiday shopping too. How many of you are like me, you want to find just the right gift for the special people in your life? It takes a lot of time, and searching and racking your brain to figure out just what to get, right? I often like to buy things that are one of a kind. Pieces that will not be the same as every other person out there. That's why vintage is awesome! You can find an amazing vintage piece- clothing, jewelry, hats or purses and when you give it as a gift, you know it will be unlike any other.
How do you start your search? Think about what the person likes, do they have a favorite animal? color? or style? Do they like statement pieces or are they more a of a classic kind of person? Start by thinking about what they wear, or maybe they collect something. Maybe they are really practical and like gifts they can use. After you have brainstormed a bit you are ready to start your search.
For women, I love high-end vintage costume jewelry. Often you can find gorgeous pieces that look so much like the real deal but you get them for a fraction of the cost. I just purchased the MOST amazing collection of unusual costume jewelry. Below are a few pictures to give you an idea of what I have. They range from Victorian, to 40s, to rhinestone to bakelite. I have brooches, necklaces, bracelets, even antique hair combs! Why not a one of a kind pillbox, or a jeweled compact?
For men who work in the business community, you can gift a tie clip or gorgeous pair of vintage cuff links. Vintage ties also make a wonderful gift.
If jewelry is not the thing, what about a practical gift like a vintage fur hat. It will keep them warm in the winter. Or, how about a cool vintage purse? You can give leather, a beaded purse or a cute clutch.
Sometimes you have someone to buy for who "has everything". I find that my mother-in-law, who is in her 80's is just that person. So, she is someone who I actually look for a gift for throughout the year! When I see something I think she will like I just buy it. This year I bought her an Italian Madonna and child made of beautiful handpainted ceramic. She is a Catholic woman through and through and I have purchased several religious gifts for her over the years. Where did I find this treasure? At the last antique show that I showed my vintage clothing and jewelry at! Is it vintage, yes it is!
